Biblical Proofs: III. God's Law

(i) Definition Of Sin And Penalty Thereof:

Scripture defines sin in I John 3:4 as the transgression of God's perfect and Holy Law, or lawlessness, and can either be physical or spiritual. The penalty of sin in Romans 6:23 is not only our death physically but eternally. Man's existence is not eternal by nature. Apart from the salvation of God, man does not have immortality. Eternal life may only be obtained from the grace of God through the shed blood of Jesus Christ at His return. Romans 6:23 and John 3:16 state two complete opposites of 1) judgment unto death or 2) the gift of eternal life. Eternal life is the gift of God the Father through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, for our sins. The penalty for sin not repented of is eternal death, not eternal life apart from God. In reality, eternal death is non-existence.

Matthew 10:28 - AFV
28.   Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but do not have power to destroy the life; rather, fear Him Who has the power to destroy both life and body in Gehenna.

I John 3:4 - AFV
4.   Everyone who practices sin is also practicing lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness.

Romans 6:23 - AFV
23.   For the wages of sin is death (i.e., the second death, which is eternal death. This is the opposite of eternal life), but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
